Our community promise
As Britain's first civic university, we were founded by and for the people of Manchester. For us, community work has never been charity - it's a fundamental part of the purpose of The University of Manchester.
Today social responsibility is one of our three core University goals. Our promise to improve the well-being of all our communities lies at the heart of everything we do.
From research and teaching that directly involves and benefits local and global societies, to an Inspiring Communities plan that sets out a variety of activities and priorities for our community work, we continue to work in many diverse ways to improve the lives of the 2.7 million people who live in Greater Manchester - and many more millions across the globe.
