The University of Manchester offers a wide range of scholarships to US students. Many of these are awarded on academic merit.
Bicentenary Global Futures Scholarships
To celebrate its bicentenary in 2024, Manchester is proud to offer more than 200 awards to international students commencing their studies in September 2024. The total value of scholarships offered will be more than £3.5 million, and awards will be open to prospective bachelor’s and master’s students.
Undergraduate awards
The University of Manchester is proud to offer more than 100 merit-based undergraduate scholarships of £21,000 to international students from a selection of countries across the globe.
The Bicentenary Global Futures Scholarships for North America are open to applicants domiciled in the USA

Each award comprises £7,000 for the first year of study with a further £7,000 awarded in the second and third years of study, conditional on attainment of 60% average in each year. Scholarships will be awarded in the form of a discount on published overseas tuition fees.
Students must be taking one of the following qualifications: Advanced Placement (AP), Dual Enrolment, High School Diploma, International Baccalaureate, or A-Levels.
Scholarships will be awarded based on academic excellence, predicted grades and your responses to questions in the online application form, which will be emailed to all eligible applicants.
Awardees will be selected based on academic merit, but we will endeavour to achieve a balance in the allocation of the awards by gender, domicile, qualification type and course of study.

- Applications for the scholarship should be submitted on the dedicated online form by 15 March 2024. A link to the online application form will be emailed to relevant offer holders. We cannot accept late applications under any circumstances.
- Applications will be considered from international fee-paying students domiciled in the USA.
- Applicants must be applying for direct first-year entry in 2024 and have, or be working towards one of the following qualifications: Advanced Placement (AP), Dual Enrolment, High School Diploma, IB Diploma. A-Levels.
- Awards offers will be made by 19 April 2024, and will be conditional on academic performance as outlined in the full terms and conditions linked below.
- Applicants for the USA awards must have accepted (made firm) a conditional or unconditional offer to study a full-time programme at Manchester by 23 May 2024. Failure to do so may result in any award being withdrawn.
- Scholarship applications from Advanced Placement (AP), Dual Enrolment, IB and A Level students will be assessed on any previous examinations, predicted grades in the above-listed qualifications and the strength of the personal statement.
- Applicants must be self-funded (not sponsored). You may apply for the award if you plan on using US Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
- Applicants for Medicine (MBChB), Dentistry (BDS), Architecture, or any courses with an integrated foundation year are not eligible for the award.
- Applicants who have previously studied at a higher education institution in the UK are not eligible for the award.
- Applicants for blended and distance learning programmes are not eligible for the award.
- The application form will be emailed automatically to all eligible applicants shortly after an academic offer is made.

- Applicants who apply before the UCAS Equal Consideration Deadline (31 January 2024) will be able to apply from 1 February 2024 even if they do not hold an offer of admission yet.
- Applicants who apply after the UCAS Equal Consideration Deadline (31 January 2024) must be holding an offer before they apply for the scholarship. Those applying after the UCAS deadline without an offer will not be considered.
- Applicants must have indicated Manchester as their Firm UCAS choice by 23 May 2024. Otherwise, any awarded scholarship may be retracted and reallocated.
- All successful applicants will be notified of the University’s decision by 19 April 2024.

For PhDs the University offers a number of competitive bursaries via individual Schools and research groups for well-qualified candidates. Please check with your prospective academic School for details and check the University’s postgraduate research funding database.
We are pleased to have funded a Fulbright-University of Manchester Award for master’s study for September 2023 entry.
We have previously hosted Fulbright scholars undertaking master’s courses in Law, Social Anthropology, International Relations and Development Economics.

The University offers Marshall Scholarships for graduate study in any subject at either master’s or doctoral level (excluding the MBA). In 2016 The University of Manchester welcomed five Marshall scholars to a wide range of programmes.
Previous Marshall Scholars have studied a wide range of subjects, including MA Humanitarianism and Conflict Response, Art Gallery and Museum Studies and MSc International Development.
An initiative that was set up by University of Manchester US alumni, NAFUM is an independent foundation that supports our work and enhances our reputation in the US. The aim of the award is to provide a range of prestigious master's scholarships to attract excellent students to our University.
The value of the NAFUM Scholarship is £8,500.
Some of our Schools will offer partial scholarships or bursaries; however, these do not always cover the full cost of tuition and living expenses. Details will be advertised on the relevant School website when scholarships are available.
The Alliance Manchester Business School is offering master's scholarships for US residents for 2024 entry.
Five scholarships are available across all Alliance Manchester Business School master's courses, with a value of £10,000 towards the tuition fee. The scholarships will be awarded in line with our application deadlines, so early application is advisable.
