Bicentenary Global Futures Scholarships
To celebrate its bicentenary in 2024, The University of Manchester is proud to offer more than 200 awards to international students commencing their studies in September 2024. Awards will be open to prospective Bachelor’s and Master’s students.
Undergraduate awards
The University of Manchester is proud to offer over 100 merit-based undergraduate scholarships of £21,000 to international students from a selection of countries across the globe.
The Bicentenary Global Futures Scholarships for South East Asia are open to applicants who are domiciled in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam in addition to the other the eligibility criteria outlined in the terms and conditions.
Please note the application form will only be made available to you once you have applied and received an offer.
Each award comprises £7,000 for the first year of study with a further £7,000 awarded in the second and third years of study, conditional on attainment of 60% average in each year. Scholarships will be awarded in the form of a discount on published overseas tuition fees.
Students must be taking one of the following qualifications:
- A-levels (including international A-levels);
- IB Diploma;
- Integrated Programme (Singapore);
- STPM (Malaysia).
Scholarships will be awarded based on academic excellence, predicted grades and your responses to questions in the online application form, which will be emailed to all eligible offer holders.
Awardees will be selected based on academic merit, but we will endeavour to achieve a balance in the allocation of the awards by gender, domicile, qualification type and course of study.

- Applications will be considered from international fee-paying students domiciled in the following countries: Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand or Vietnam.
- Applicants must be applying for direct first-year entry in 2024 and have, or be working towards one of the following qualifications:Applicants from South East Asia must have accepted (made firm) a conditional or unconditional offer to study a full-time programme at Manchester and must submit an online scholarship application form by 23 May 2024.
- A-Levels (including international A-Levels);
- IB Diploma;
- Integrated Programme (Singapore);
- STPM (Malaysia).
- Scholarship applications will be assessed on any previous examinations, predicted grades in the above-listed qualifications and the strength of the personal statement.
- Applicants must be self-funded (not sponsored).
- Applicants for Medicine (MBChB), Dentistry (BDS), Architecture, or any courses with an integrated foundation year are not eligible for the award.
- Applicants must have selected The University of Manchester as their FIRM UCAS choice by 23 May 2024.
- Applicants who have previously studied an education institution in the UK are not eligible for the award.
- Applicants for blended and distance learning programmes are not eligible for the award.
- The application form will be emailed to all eligible applicants shortly after an academic offer is made.
- Awards offers will be made by 21 June 2024, and will be conditional on academic performance as outlined in the full terms and conditions linked below.

Master’s awards
The University of Manchester is proud to offer more than 100 merit-based master’s scholarships to prospective international students from a range of countries across the globe
The value of The Bicentenary Global Futures Scholarships for students from eligible countries in South East Asia is £8,000; scholarships will be awarded in the form of a discount on published overseas tuition fees.
Within South East Asia, the awards are open to applicants domiciled in one of the following countries: Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand or Vietnam; in addition to the other the eligibility criteria outlined in the terms and conditions.
Please note the application form will only be made available to you once you have applied and been made an offer.
These scholarships of £8,000 will be awarded based on academic excellence and the quality of your responses in the online application form.
Scholarships will be awarded in the form of a discount on published overseas tuition fees.
- Applications will be considered from international fee-paying students domiciled in one of the following countries: Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand or Vietnam
- Applicants for the awards must hold an unconditional offer to study a full-time on-campus master’s course at The University of Manchester for a course starting in September 2024, and must submit an online scholarship application form by 26 April 2024. The application form will be emailed to all eligible offer-holders.
- Applicants will be considered for the award based on academic merit and the quality of their scholarship application, but we will endeavour to achieve a balance by gender, domicile and course in the allocation of the awards.
- Applicants must be self-funded (not sponsored).
- Applicants for MBA, MPhil, Master of Architecture (MArch), Architecture and Urbanism (MA), Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA), Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), Clinical Medicine and Dentistry degrees are not eligible for the award. Some ‘Master’s by Research’ courses are also ineligible (see Terms and Conditions, below).
- Applicants who have studied a bachelor’s degree outside of the eligible countries in South East Asia are not eligible for the award.
- Applicants for blended, part-time and distance learning programmes are not eligible for the award. [This includes programmes hosted by one of our Global Centres]
