Sport
Manchester takes sport seriously, whether it’s competing in football’s Premier League or training for the next Olympics at the National Cycling Centre.
While studying in Manchester you can take the opportunity to watch top-flight sport, or even get involved in some of the many sporting events on offer.
Watching the action
Manchester has long been synonymous with football thanks to Manchester United and Manchester City – but there’s much more to discover here.
Many of Europe’s best rugby league sides play close to Manchester, and you can watch national and international cricket at Lancashire Cricket Club, just outside the city centre.
Sportcity, located just 3.5 miles from the main University campus, has an array of sports facilities, including the National Cycling Centre, which is home to the successful Team GB track squad.
Getting active
- National Cycling Centre at Sportcity – hire a bike and helmet and test the track.
- Also at Sportcity – excellent tennis, squash and athletics facilities.
- Chill Factore – the UK’s longest indoor real snow skiing and snowboarding slopes.
- Great Manchester Run – the nation’s favourite annual 10k running event.
